HOOKY WINS £0.5M TO FUND CLIMATE CHANGE PROJECTS IN THE VILLAGE!

More news on how you can improve your energy efficiency, reduce your carbon footprint and benefit from interest free loans coming soon....

The Low Carbon Hook Norton Group in the village have now set up a company, which is an Industrial and Provident Society. This company is Hook Norton Low Carbon Ltd.

The aim of the company is to promote energy saving within our community by direct and indirect means. At a small level, this means we can negotiate group discounts on energy saving technologies, offer special rates for renewable electricity and spread the word on energy saving measures to the local community. On a larger scale we may attract funding for more ambitious ideas such as locally driven house refurbishments, electric pool cars for the village, a wind farm, local food growing groups, the possibilities are endless.

An IPS is a company owned by its members (a type of co-op) which can act as any other business. The company can apply for grant funding, take on loans and engage in commercial activities, but as a community benefit society the profits don’t go back to shareholders but are used for the benefit of the residents of Hook Norton and the surrounding area.

Membership is open to anyone in Hook Norton and the surrounding area, and it costs just one pound to join. This gives you one vote, the same as all other members.

As a starter, members of the company can enjoy preferential rates with the Phone CoOp - a local phone provider offering good deals on phone charges, and a company who run their business on ethical and low carbon principles. Further savings come from members signing up with Green Energy uk - a company that promotes, funds and uses renewable energy generation in the UK, - Hook Norton Low Carbon Ltd members will enjoy a preferential rate - so you can save money on your electricity bill, and save the planet at the same time.

Part of the savings you make comes back to the company who will then invest in local energy saving measures, which could be installing solar panels on local buildings or providing improved insulation for local houses. The company can negotiate deals with solar panel providers, insulation companies and local builders and engineers who can specify and install energy saving technologies in your home.
The more energy we save the more money we can spend on energy saving...

The company is already engaged in negotiations and applications for grant funding that could amount to as much as half a million pounds by the end of 2009. This money would be spent locally on energy saving measures and generation projects.
